The most common reasons for a "small breast" are genetic. However, there are also often malformations of the breast, which become apparent at an early age.

Many women suffer from small or sagging breasts, especially after pregnancy or after heavy weight loss. At the same time, the shape and volume of a woman's breasts changes with age.

How is breast augmentation performed and how long is the scar?

The implant is inserted through a small incision in the crease under the breast either below or above the muscle. This is individually different. The scar will be 2-3 cm long, depending on the size of the implant. An alternative is breast augmentation with autologous fat.

The aim of the surgical procedure is to achieve a natural breast shape. The extent of the breast augmentation and is adapted to the anatomical conditions.

The procedure can be combined with the patient's own fat to improve the shape and achieve a natural result. The fat can be taken from anywhere and is also possible in slim patients. After the operation, push up bras should be worn again at the earliest after six weeks.

How long do the implants last?

This is individually different. If a capsular contracture with a displacement of the implant occurs, it must either be removed or replaced.

We use the most modern implants, which do not leak uncontrolled and they usually last a lifetime. Often a change is only necessary for aesthetic reasons.

How long does the breast surgery take?

The operation time varies individually, usually 90 - 120 minutes.

Is the procedure performed on an outpatient basis or is an inpatient stay necessary?

A short stationary stay with one overnight stay is recommended. If the implant is inserted over the muscle, the procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis. This method is less painful than if the implant is inserted under the muscle.

Did the scars of the breast enlargement remain visible?

The fine scars are hardly visible after one year and are hidden in the underbust crease. We recommend that the scars are regularly treated with a fatty ointment or silicone patch.

What are the risks with breast augmentation?

The most common risk is the so-called capsular contracture, i.e. the painful capsule formation around the prosthesis. The occurrence of capsular contracture after treatment varies from individual to individual, and bruising or infection can promote capsular contracture. Further risks are disturbances in wound healing, bruising or infection.

Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) associated with breast implants has been the subject of increasing discussion recently. There is a possible link between BIA-ALCL and breast implants, but nothing has been proven to date.

Hypersensitivity or numbness may occur after the operation. We recommend regular skin care after the treatment.

When does health insurance cover a part of the operation costs?

Breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure and must be paid for by the patient. In case of a capsular contracture, the health insurance usually covers the removal of the prosthesis and capsule.
