Liposuction to remove disturbing fat deposits

Dr Mathias Tremp Liposuction

Liposuction against sports- and diet-resistant fat deposits

Liposuction is suitable for patients who continue to have resistant problem areas despite dieting, healthy eating and exercise.

In women, the unwanted kilos remain mainly in the hips and thighs. In men, the fatty tissue typically accumulates in the abdominal area, similar to an apple.

With a conscious reduction of weight, the face and chest often lose volume quickly. The hips, lower abdomen or thighs have different fat tissue. Therefore, these stubborn zones often cannot be influenced.

The well-known problem areas are the abdomen, hips (love handles), thighs (riding breeches) or the buttocks. The male chest can also be suctioned as an unwanted fat pad.

For a harmonious silhouette of the body

Liposuction is the most common cosmetic operation in Switzerland. The surgical procedure removes excess fat from problem areas by suction and improves the silhouette.

Whether the result of liposuction is permanent also depends strongly on the patient's behaviour. The fat cells that are suctioned out during the operation are gone. Only if treated patients gain a lot of weight again, new fat cells can form in the body.

Liposuction is not a procedure for general weight reduction. The aim of liposuction is to contour the silhouette of the body and create harmonious proportions.

Overweight and obesity

Obesity is caused by too much energy intake. Weight increases because the body takes in more calories than it consumes through physical activity.

Less than 5% of overweight patients have a genetically low metabolism. These patients find it very difficult to lose weight with normal measures. For severely overweight people, surgical reduction of the stomach can be an option to lose weight quickly and sustainably.

Health and aesthetics

The excess kilos put a great strain on the body and health. Excess weight reduces the quality of life and is also an aesthetic problem. If patients want to lose weight permanently, they need to change their diet and exercise.

Lipedema is a special case. It is a pathological change in the fatty tissue or the lymph vessels. In lipedema, there can be a massive thickening of the affected areas.

In patients with lipedema, liposuction is performed over a large area and also over a large amount of fat. A significant reduction in weight can be achieved with liposuction. In the case of lipedema, experience shows that several sessions are necessary.

Liposuction for men

In men, the problem areas are mostly on the abdomen and hips.

The so-called Pirelli or life ring presses along the waistline and is unattractive. In addition to a healthy lifestyle, liposuction of hip and abdominal fat is an effective method for correcting the body shape.

Liposuction is not suitable for a pot belly or beer belly. The unwanted fat deposits are located in the abdominal cavity, around the intestines. Liposuction cannot be performed in the abdominal cavity.

Other problem areas such as the chin, neck, arms, back, abdomen, buttocks, thighs (riding breeches) and calves can be effectively treated with liposuction.

In men, male breasts (gynaecomastia) are a frequent reason for liposuction. The excess fatty tissue on the man's chest can be effectively removed by liposuction.

Prerequisite for liposuction

Liposuction is possible at any age if you are in good health.

Liposuction is useful when body fat remains stubborn in places despite a healthy diet and exercise. Liposuction does not help you lose weight and is not a substitute for diet and exercise. Liposuction is a tool for improved body contour.

A high elasticity of the skin favours a beautiful result. Stretch marks or excess skin cannot be removed with liposuction.

Abdominal and waist liposuction

The lower abdomen (below the belly button) is a stubborn problem area in women and men. Pregnancy or a caesarean section can change the appearance of the female lower abdomen.

In men, too, a large part of the abdominal fat can be suctioned off directly under the skin and above the abdominal muscles.

When treating the belly, the interaction with the hips must be taken into account. A slimmer hip area also makes the belly appear slimmer.

In cases with large amounts of excess skin, liposuction should be discussed with a combined Tightening of the Abdominoplasty should be discussed. In cases of sagging skin, tightening allows for an effective result.

Liposuction of the hip area - riding breeches and love handles

Liposuction of the hips is a very good way to optimise the silhouette.

In women, the fat pads are located on the hips and above the pelvic bone. Liposuction of the riding breeches is often combined with liposuction of the thighs.

In men, the hips and abdomen are often the big problem areas. The unwanted love handles in men are usually firmer and therefore more difficult to remove.

Depending on the circumference, tightening of the abdominal wall should be considered for an effective result.

Liposuction on legs and knees

Liposuction of the legs and inner thighs mainly affects women. It should be noted that the elasticity of the inner sides is less than the outer side of the thighs.

The inner side of the thighs determine an important part of the aesthetic silhouette of the legs. However, it is also important to consider the interaction with the outer side and the knee. The coordinated liposuction of the legs can bring a great visual improvement.

Liposuction on the upper arms

Deposits on the arms are particularly stubborn. The deposits can hardly be effectively reduced even with adapted nutrition, diet and sport.

Liposuction on the upper arms gives beautiful results. The treatment makes the arms look slimmer. At the same time, the rest of the body appears more shapely. If a lot of fat is removed, liposuction of the arms should be accompanied by an upper arm lift.

Surgery, ability to work, risks and aftercare

Liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis under local anaesthesia (tumescent local anaesthesia) or general anaesthesia. Before the procedure, saline solution is injected a fine needle into the fat tissue.

Subsequently, fat is suctioned from various parts of the body using a fine suction cannula and small punctures. The result can already be assessed during the procedure. Liposuction leads to a permanent and natural result.

Bruises or numbness disappear after a few days to weeks after the procedure. With good aftercare, the fine scars of the incisions become almost invisible. Compression garments should be worn for 4-6 weeks after the procedure to support the healing process.

The pain is comparable to a sore muscle. Depending on the extent of the liposuction, patients are fit for work again 3 to 6 days after the treatment.

Costs for liposuction (fat removal)

The costs include all measures such as preliminary consultation, operation, anaesthesia, medication, stays and follow-up.

The costs for an operation vary depending on the duration and severity of the operation. The costs are discussed in detail beforehand and are to be considered as a flat rate per case.
