Correction of sailing ears in children and adults

In addition to their function as an important sensory organ, ears have an influence on the appearance in form and position. Heavily protruding ears (gliding ears) can be aesthetically disturbing in children and adults and in certain cases can also cause psychological problems.

The causes of protruding ears are genetic. In most cases, a too flat or even non-existent anthelix fold (inner fold of the auricle) or a too steep ear hollow (concha) is the reason. If the cartilage of the ear grows or develops undesirably, the ears can protrude from birth. In any case, protruding ears do not cause hearing impairment and the correction does not affect hearing.

Ears are fully developed from the age of 4 years. This means that protruding ears can be applied to children even before they start school. Otoplasty is one of the few aesthetic operations that is also performed on children before they reach the age of majority. The operation can be performed on children and adolescents under general anaesthesia or as an outpatient procedure in twilight sleep. For adults, the operation is preferably performed under a gentle local anaesthetic.

Thus the original, natural appearance of the face is restored...

From PD Dr. med. Mathias Tremp | May 17, 2020

Excess skin on the upper eyelids quickly makes patients look tired and old. Often, however, especially in older patients, sunken eyebrows occur simultaneously, which often go unnoticed. TCA peeling is a gentle, non-surgical facial treatment and is well tolerated by all skin types and ages. Read more...

Face-lift and neck lift? Questions to PD Dr. Mathias Tremp

From PD Dr. med. Mathias Tremp | November 1, 2019

What kind of technique is used for face and neck lift? There are different techniques, each technique is applied individually depending on the shape of the face. Basically, however, it is not a simple skin tightening, but rather a tightening of the underlying structures, so-called SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system). In a neck lift, the neck muscle (platysma) is tightened and if...
